Deep Sleep Smoothie

Spring has sprung! As we begin to move into warmer months, our cravings for hearty, warm foods fades and an appetite for cool, refreshing foods surfaces. The perfect sweet treat before bed? An evening smoothie.

We reached out to Jackie Morgan, Nutritionist & Clinic Director at Well Hub Nutrition - oh, and Pilates instructor, and future Naturopath. Truly a master of many trades! Jackie was has created a decadent and delicious smoothie for The Goodnight Co., packed with wholesome nutrients to support sleep onset.

The smoothie is formulated with ingredients that have been carefully selected to support your nervous system, helping to calm your mind and body before bed.

Avocado

A rich source of healthy fats that will reduce sugar cravings and keep you satisfied before bed.

Chia Seeds, Almond Butter & Greek Yoghurt

All three ingredients are sources of tryptophan, an essential amino acid that produces melatonin and serotonin, our sleep hormones. These healthy fats also balance blood sugar levels to prevent a peak in energy before slumber.

Cacao Powder

Not only is it delicious, but it contains high levels of magnesium to relax tense muscles.

Best of all? This is a sugar-free smoothie! Why? Because consuming foods rich in sugars and carbohydrates before bed can keep you awake at night. Consuming sugar right before bed can lead to a peak in blood sugar levels, followed by a subsequent crash. When our blood sugar levels crash, a series of hormones are automatically produced by the body to regulate blood glucose. These hormones can re-stimulate your brain leaving you tossing and turning for hours.
